The 3-pack and the 6-pack contain different papers. All nine mocks are equivalent papers of the same difficulty, so they can be used in any order.

What each mock contains

  • The six Part 1 sections with the school's own timings: Maths 20 minutes, English 30, Non-verbal reasoning 10, Verbal reasoning 10, Puzzles and problem solving 15, Creative comprehension 20
  • A 30-minute Part 2 creative writing task, with a marking guide
  • A timing guide and an answer sheet
  • A mark scheme with an answer key, a score table and a worked solution for every question, including why each wrong option is wrong

On screen and on paper

The real Part 1 is taken on screen, and the Maths, Non-verbal reasoning and Verbal reasoning sections adapt to each answer. These printed mocks match the sections, timings and question styles, but they cannot adapt.

How to score

The real Part 1 is mostly multiple choice, and some sections adapt to each answer, so on screen each question counts as one mark. The mocks score Part 1 the same way: one mark per question, except two longer Creative comprehension answers in each mock, worth 2 and 3 marks. Because the real test adapts and these papers can't, a raw total isn't directly comparable with a score in the real test. Compare section by section instead, and watch the timing: finishing each section in its time matters as much as the marks.

How we've read the format

The school doesn't publish question counts, and doesn't describe the English, Puzzles or Creative comprehension sections in detail. The question counts are our choice, sized so each section can be finished in its time at a steady pace. English is reading comprehension on one passage plus grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary; Puzzles and problem solving is logic and reasoning puzzles (codes, grids, patterns, deduction) rather than curriculum arithmetic; Creative comprehension is a short literary text or poem with questions on inference, imagery and the writer's choices. Level: 11+ standard, National Curriculum Year 6 with some selective-school stretch.
